Howdy, since it’s the end of my working week seems appropriate for a wee update. Finally got word today from Paul Harkins, Musselburgh Baptist Church (aka the God Squad) FC’s gaffer and his boys are ripe for a game a week today on the 17th at good old Fisherrow. Standard procedure, 7pm kick off, want to get the boys there for 6 in order to set up the nets and get a good proper half hour warm up. One slight downside that has ‘last minute astro’ written all over it is the fact that Fisherrow pitch 1 has been out of action for a month now, and pitch 2 is booked. Since they took the booking i assume that the pitch should be back in action come next Tuesday. I certianly hope it is because my shins can’t handle another rock solid astro battering, and they are also generally really really far away.
An issue i hope to be resolved by then is the knee injury of Gordon Mackenzie, something I forgot to mention in a previous update. Gordon has injured his knee (presumably doing something machine-like such as dragging fat tourists across town in his rickshaw non stop for a week). However at the time the club’s physio ruled Gordon out of first team action for a week, and since it’s been just over a week now I remain hopeful that Gordon will be 100% fit and ready to rejoin first team training within the next couple of days.
All things considered, if the God Squad fixture goes ahead as plans it promises to be a spicy affair, hopefully riddled with goals from The Volley boys. Perhaps a couple Socrates style 30 yard belters, a George Bestesque mazy run, and God willing me opening my goalscoring account (it’s gonna take a few visits to Father Joe down at Loretto for that one to come off).
Keep the faith,
JD
