After a few minor setbacks the team we put out proved to be far weaker than we had envisaged and we were forced to start 4 members from our (sic) youth setup. Sadly any details from that game have been lost in the sands of time, and nobody can even remember the result, but my dad Ken Dick opened Staggs goalscoring account typical of his chuck-me-on-for-the-last-ten-minutes-to-run-at-them-style. The biggest result to emerge from our first ever game was managing to field a team of 11 men, with a couple subs too boot. On top of this the fixture managed to pull in an attendance of around 20 (mostly my family) on a cold winter night in February. A surely promising start to the club’s hopefully long and fruitful history, that saw Owen Kinsella nab the glory of the first ever man of the match award for the club.

For the short term I as chairman/manager/captain/defensive dogfighter/last half hour free role crank, have a few aims for the Club.

-Firstly to establish a regular squad that we can rely on to not only show up but also do a job for us

-Secondly to promote interest within the pub itself and properly get some punters involved, either on the pitch or in other capacities

-Also we’d like to get ourselves a set of strips as the set generously donated by centre back Gordon Mackenzie, will probably not hold up forever

-An aim that may be achieved more short term is to enter us into one of the University leagues, and get a regular game

Hopefully all this can be achieved within the next six months and we become the 3rd Force on the Edinburgh football scene within 10 years (the 1st being an Edinburgh team beginning with H and the 2nd being Spartans).

Anyways, now seems to be an appropriate stage to reveal the badge I designed instead of working on an essay the other day.
